Detroiters need jobs and skills to contribute to Detroit’s resurgence
There is major investment underway in Detroit’s core. Many residents, who have lived in the city through its ups and downs, lack the skills required by employers to capitalize on this rebirth. No single organization, partnership, or model can solve all of the entrenched issues in Detroit. We need an “all hands on deck” approach to solve the challenges faced by Detroit’s job-seekers. We believe this collaborative model will create opportunities and pathways for success.
The Detroit Jobs Alliance is a growing coalition of nonprofit, private, and public sector organizations working in partnership to support pathways to employment and careers for all Detroiters. The Detroit Jobs Alliance creates a forum to better connect existing job creation and skill development efforts, align public-and private-sector resources, foster innovation, and advocate for more supportive and flexible policies and funding.
Through the development of a platform for collective action, the Detroit Jobs Alliance will help:
- Community-Based Organizations unite efforts to support education and career pathways for Detroit residents
- City and state agencies more effectively engage the community
- Business and industry understand how to access local talent and partner in creating a competitive workforce
- Detroit residents access the full continuum of support for developing their careers
