DJA recently co-sponsored an event in partnership with DJA member Workforce Intelligence Network that featured four major employers – Home Depot, Compuware, MGM Grand Casino and Henry Ford Health Systems. Employers emphasized a range of points including:

  • customer service
  • empathy
  • verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • work ethic/motivation
  • team and independent work ability
  • interview skills
  • time management

Event participants included community organizations, faith-based groups, community colleges and workforce agencies. In addition to connections with employers and more information on what they are looking for, 87% of event participants said they made a new connection at the event.

The DJA is helping to create a space for front office staff and program managers in the Detroit area are connected to each other, can connect directly with employers, and can get connected to the skills they need to help Detroiters seeking employment and sustainable careers and livelihoods.
