The Detroit Area Green Sector Skills Alliance (GSSA), as a designated Michigan Skills Alliance supported in part with funding and technical assistance provided by the State of Michigan, is an independent industry alliance meant to serve the needs of the industry in the region. Detroit Area GSSA has the dual focus of helping green related businesses grow and creating job opportunities and career pathways for workers.
Detroit Area GSSA is composed of a range of businesses interested in collaborating to grow the green economy in the Detroit area and ensure a strong workforce pipeline and career pathways for workers in the green economy. The initial focus of Detroit Area GSSA and its business leaders was on the energy efficiency and building retrofit sector and the residential energy retrofit sub-sector in particular. Yet, Detroit Area GSSA’s sector focus is being broadened based on identification of the greatest opportunities for business leaders and workers. The ultimate long-term goal of Detroit Area GSSA is to promote alignment of industry and public sector policies, marketing, other activities and resources for the advancement of targeted green businesses, people (workers) and the region.
Detroit Area GSSA is supported by the Detroit Regional Workforce Fund (DRWF) which is housed at the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. The State of Michigan Workforce Development Agency is a member of the DRWF steering committee along with other public and private funder members.
