The Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) helps neighbors build communities in Detroit by providing capital, technical expertise, training, and information to develop local leadership in creating affordable housing, spurring economic development, and supporting safe neighborhoods.
Working with funders, community development corporations, the philanthropic community, and dedicated residents, Detroit LISC rebuilds communities from the ground up. Through a comprehensive Building Sustainable Communities approach to neighborhood revitalization, Detroit LISC and its partners are committed to turning distress into success.
Detroit LISC is a local organization within the national LISC network that includes 30 offices in urban areas across the country as well as rural offices that serve 39 states. National LISC, founded in 1980, is the largest national community development intermediary, combining corporate, government, and philanthropic resources to help community-based organizations revitalize their neighborhoods. LISC is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certified by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institution Fund, established to help provide economic empowerment to America’s underserved and distressed communities.
Simply put, at Detroit LISC we help resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into healthy ones – good places to live, do business, work, and raise families.
